I’ve had a lot of questions about the mirror effect in my banner, and it’s really a very simple thing to do.
Start off the standard way: import model, group, draw a plane, adjust model so it’s standing on the plane, point a camera at it, set perspective viewport to camera. Now select the plane and open the Material Editor box (under Rendering). Scroll down and expand the “Maps” section, then check the box next to “Reflection”. Click the box that says “None” then double-click “Raytrace”. Apply the material to your plane and you’re ready to render.

Environment color will be reflected onto the plane somewhat, as would any background image you use. You’ll just have to play around with Environment/Ambient colors and strengths until you get what you want. Oh, and this plane will still create shadows if you add a light source to your scene.
